THE HAND OF CHOICES || Story
Once upon a time, there was
an Old man who lived in the countryside and had three grandchildren. One day,
they came to visit him to spend the holidays with him. As he promised them
previously when they were with him, he said that once you come again, I will
tell you a wonderful story of life and what I have known in my old ages. The
Old man kept his promise even if the children would forget it.
It was midday when the
children were playing with their village nieces and nephews. The Old man was
watching them and called them to come where he was sitting on a chair made with
cow skin and sticks. All children came and surrounded him as he had wished to
test their knowledge and understanding. He took three baskets of fruits and
arranged them in this way: one was a mangoes’ basket, second was an apples’
basket the last was an oranges’ basket on straight line.
He said: ‘Here I have three baskets filled with sweet
fruits that would satisfy your hunger. But before I share these to you, it will
matter with how you will answer my puzzle. So, I want all of you to come and
stand for your opportunities.’ The three boys move forward and ready for
the grandfather’s challenge. He continued: ‘the
goal is to go and pick a fruit from the basket but make sure that none has the same
fruits as yours. Everyone has a single choice and will tell us why he made that
choice. So, good lucky kids!’
The two ran fast
and chose theirs quickly: one with mango, the second one with apple and also
the last had apple, mango and orange. They
presented them to their grandfather. The first kid explained: ‘I chose mango because I had to follow your
order of choosing a single fruit.’ The
second one repeated what first one mentioned.
‘Why that choice?’ The Old man
asked the last one. The kid replied, ‘First
of all, I apologize for disappointing you. I may have listened incorrectly
because you said we had a single choice, but I heard “single chance.” My heart
pushed me to take that one chance. I wanted to choose everything I needed, and
I wondered why we were given only one choice when it was possible to choose all
in a single chance. So I decided to take it. Grandpa, I am ready to accept the
consequences for violating your instructions.’
The Old man closed the battle by concluding that all are winners but the last is better. They all asked him: ‘why is he better than us yet he did not follow the game rules?’ Old man answered: ‘He is better because he got the chance and used it well!’ My children listen to me carefully in this life, always life gives us many choices to pass through to make our lives better, but we never see it instead we see what’s easy to do. By ignoring simple opportunities, we often miss many chances life gives us. Life never truly offers just one choice, even though people may feel pressured to choose only one because of their blindness to other possibilities. So, my sons, open your eyes and be ready to see what life offers you, and be ready to use it wisely. These fruits are yours. Eat them, but always remember these words: your choices are in your hands, and you must decide wisely. Enjoy your meal let me go to rest! See you soon sons.
